~MAKING OF PREDATORY GAME~
This Page Last Updated: January 07, 2008 17:25:48

She looked so beautiful, innocent and sweet.  How could such a small, delicate girl be a threat to anyone? Then she touched him…and he died.

Our heroine is a living conflict. She could easily pass as teenager.  She could easily appear to be innocent and vulnerable.  But the fact of the matter is, she’s the deadliest of the heroines in the Game books to date.  Her power is deadly. But, so is her camouflage of innocence.  Her power is so unique it allows her slip by other Ghostwalkers unnoticed.  What is her power? Ah, now you don’t expect me to give that away do you?!

Her name is Saber and like the other girls she has been genetically altered, enhanced and trained to kill.  But, her match is equally as deadly.  Jesse Calhoun is a powerful Ghostwalker.  And for the first part of the book they have no idea that the other is enhanced.

Jess has been in previous Game books.  If you follow the series you already know that he was shot in the legs and is now in a wheelchair.  But I can assure you that does not make him any less deadly.

Once the trailer comes out there’ll be no keeping his secret, well…secret. But, I don’t plan on giving it away here.  I do want to say that for those of you who are wondering how a Ghostwalker in a wheelchair can be dangerous, sexy and very action-oriented let me say that Jess is going to surprise you.

Making a book trailer of course means that I get to read the book.  As a fan of the Ghostwalker series I was a little surprised with this book. It isn’t like the others in that the story is primarily the romance.  This is about a couple, a relationship and the emotions that these two have for each other.  This is a love story first and an action/adventure second.  I’m not sure how people will respond to this book since the other books have so much action, technology, military and let’s face it, violence in them.  I knew before I read the book that this was going to be very different, so I have to admit to a little trepidation.  But, I’m a romance reader and the romance in this book really appealed to me.

There is action and adventure in this book. Things blow up, people get shot and many fights are fought.  There is talk of high technology and there are military elements in there.  But it is the romance that is the focus of this story.

For those of you who followed the interactive blog you got to see us working on the pre-production.  That was something new that we did so that fans could watch the progress of the production, get hints of what would be in the trailer, thus in the book, and have an opportunity to ask questions and have them answered the very next day on video! It was such fun! Even Christine participated and she answered all of the fan’s questions on video. If you missed all of that you can see it here-  http://booktrailers.blogspot.com/
You’ll need to scroll down and start on Dec. 5th to start from the beginning. Please feel free to leave comments still if you like.

The actor playing Jesse Calhoun is cover model Brian Schell (http://www.brian-schell.com/portfolio.php) and for those of you attending RT this year, you can meet him there in person. Brian is a fantastic person with a wonderful sense of humor, but we knew he was “one of us” when he broke out pictures of his dog. Brian loves his dog. He even bought the dog a little child’s bed and put it next to his own and he had pictures of that! Anyone who loves animals that much definitely fits in well with us, and with the Feehan family. That’s a good thing because Denise’s little dog detected the bagel in Brian’s coat pocket and ate the bagel…and the coat!  Brian found it as funny as we did and wasn’t upset at all. What a guy!

There are two scenes in the trailer that are not actually in the book.  They are alluded to in the book though and we needed to include them for continuity’s sake since not everyone has read the other Game books.  One scene that we added is a flashback scene that shows how Jess got in the chair.  This required doing a fight scene, which meant that Christine would be on set to do fight choreography.

Of course we all know that it’s not just our hero that uses hand to hand combat.  Saber, who is played by a beautiful young lady by the name of Lauren, would also be kicking butt in this trailer.

I’ve known Christine since 2002.  Over the years we’ve worked together on many projects and I’ve met her in person many times.  When you meet her you realize first and foremost that she loves her family. She is very family oriented.  Then you find out that she loves animals.  You can see her little dogs in some of the behind the scenes pictures. Watching this loving, grandmother who is so quiet and often shy start telling people how to make “killing blows” it is a little unnerving!  I swear Christine Feehan is the Chuck Norris of romance writers! I’ve really never, personally, seen anything like it.  It is a good reminder that she taught martial arts and self defense for over 20 years. It’s still a bit unnerving to see the transformation though.

The character of Saber was very intriguing to me. Her looks are very versatile and she knows it. She uses it like any other tool in her arsenal of powers.  The character is more athletic, down to earth type so that she can blend, look normal, not draw attention to herself.  But, he’s a DJ at Jess’s radio station and her voice is so sultry and seductive it ends up getting her into some trouble.

One of the scenes that really appealed to me as an artist is the opening scene where Saber is in the bathroom.  We see her wipe away the steam off the bathroom mirror and it shows her face in the reflection. She then begins to reflect on her life and we learn right away that she’s done some terrible things.  But, then we back away and see a little more of her. And she reflects on some other things in her life. By the time we learn how dangerous she is we pull back again and see more of her. The towel around her doesn’t hide the burn marks on her back and there are many of them.  By now you realize she’s been tortured at some point in her life and you feel sympathy for her.  We wanted to start those conflicts of her personality and life right away in the trailer.  The scene, to me, was very reflective of the character. We see her do terrible things. We see terrible things were done to her. And in the end we see her putting on her black “stealth” clothes again and are left wondering where she is now in her life.

It’s actually not easy to see the scars in when you watch the trailer. They look dramatic in the close up photo here, but they’re a bit lighter in the trailer.

And of course Jess is not without his own set of scars.  Not only was he shot in the legs, but they beat his legs, which is why he can’t walk.  So, Brian had to go through having the make up put on his legs.  The make up that is used for scars stinks and is not easy to take off, so I guess Lauren and Brian really were heroes after all! Lol

This trailer will be the longest running trailer we’ve ever done. It’s more like a short film, but without a definite ending.  It’s so long that we’ll only be uploading the 30 second spot on our usual distribution channels.  You’ll be able to see the long version here on Christine’s site, later on her MySpace and then on Reader’s Entertainment TV (http://www.readersentertainment.tv).  You’ll find it here in the member’s only section first!

I found the ending of this book to be very interesting and not what I thought would happen. I was very satisfied with the ending, but of course there are always little things that Christine puts in the books that lets you know another book is coming and she reveals a little more to us each time.  Not to worry though, there’s a definite ending to this book, just, obviously, not to the series. Lucky us!
